Break times

You will have one break time in the morning, and this is where you have a short break to grab a tasty hot or cold snack from the Lime Lounge or our new outdoor fabulous food hub the Little Lime, see friends, go outside for some fresh air on our sports field, have a catch up at one of the many picnic benches across the grounds, or go to the Library.

Clubs

Clubs run after school (with the exception of the Green Team). Clubs and activities are displayed on our website and on posters around the academy. You will wear your normal academy uniform during the day and you can change for your club after school. An example of the clubs we have on offer are Badminton, Asian Dance/Street Hip Hop, Athletics, Netball, Orchestra, Choir, Rounders and our eco famous CG Green Team.

Feeling unwell

There might be an occasion when you are feeling unwell and need some help. You might feel a bit worried or scared but it’s ok we are all here to make sure you feel ok, feel safe and enjoy your time at Chatham Grammar. We have our own Pastoral Support staff who are available to assist you.

First Aid

We have lots of staff who are trained as first aiders so don’t worry if you have an accident, we are ready to help you and make sure you are ok to return to lessons or if there is a problem then we will contact your parents or carers double quick.

House System

At Chatham Grammar we have four houses which are called: Angelou, Kahlo, Seacole and Sharman. These houses are named after inspirational women – chosen by our CG students. If you join Chatham Grammar you are allocated a house and you will be in this house for seven years. Houses are great for building friendships, entering competitions and earning the very much wanted Leadership Points!

Leadership Points

We have an impressive rewards system at Chatham Grammar where you can earn Leadership Points. The Leadership Points reward system allows students to visually track the Leadership Points that your teachers have awarded you via your iPad. You will be rewarded through a virtual store and can cash your Leadership Points in for a variety of prizes and rewards, including treats at the academy, small gifts and online shopping vouchers. You can also enter raffles for larger prizes and even donate to local charities.

Leadership Roles

We have many leadership opportuntiies for our CG students to encourage young people to take on roles and responsibilities to build their academy community and gain valuable skills and insights.  Student can be Careers Ambassadors, Sports Leaders, Digital Thinkers, Equalities Leaders, DofE Ambassadors and part of the established Green Team.

Library

The Library is a bright working space that is available before your first lesson, during break and lunch times, and after school. The books in the Library are free to loan and you can even borrow educational DVDs. It also has computers and a friendly group working space. The Library is a great place to read, relax, and study at the academy. Our Librarian  regularly holds competitions and quizzes with amazing prizes!

Lockers

Lockers are a great place to keep your belongings throughout the academy day. Lockers are available to all students and your parents or carers can pay for these ready for when you choose to join us in September – it’s very easy! There are lockers all over the academy, so don’t worry because there are enough for all students to have one. You will find out where your locker is when you join us in September.

Lunch times

You will have 30 minutes for your lunch time. You can have packed lunches or pay for hot or cold food in the Lime Lounge. We use ParentPay to purchase food from the Lime Lounge so no need to bring money to the academy.

Mindfulness

We do mindfulness programmes as part of our Leadership Development Programme in Years 7, 8 and 9. Mindfulness is scientifically proven to help reduce stress, anxiety, sadness and depression. Mindfulness can also increase focus, concentration and encourages students to be more in the present moment, enjoying the now rather than living in the past or worrying unnecessarily about the future. It’s much fun and very relaxing.

New Building

We have an amazing new building at the front of the academy which has plenty of high-tech teaching spaces.  This is where the main reception is based and our new UKAT Sixth Form Study Room.  This is also where your parents/carers should go if they need to meet with staff and ask for any assistance from the academy.

ParentPay

ParentPay is an online way for your parents/carers to put money into your academy account so that you can pay for food and drinks without having to have any cash with you. It’s very safe and easy as you can’t lose your break or lunch money. You can top up your ParentPay account by bringing some money to the academy using the easy cash loaders that are based on the walls in the Lime Lounge. If you are worried about using ParentPay or the cash loaders – don’t worry, there are always lots of members of staff around to help you.

Personal Tutors

Personal Tutors are the key source of support for students from Year 7 upwards. Heads of Year work closely with students and Personal Tutors. There is support from Sixth Form Mentors, Online Safety Ambassadors, Personal Tutors, Heads of Year and the Safeguarding Team. In addition, we have counsellors and availability to the academy nursing service where this is needed.

Reward Shop

Our range of amazing prizes is available to reserve on your iPad and can be picked up from Student Services (based at the Student Hub) during lunch times or at the end of the Academy day. The range of different prizes is available for you to browse through on your iPads and changes on a regular basis so make sure you check back in for updates. You can even make recommendations of items you’d like to see added to the shop.

Student Newsletter

We have a Chatham Grammar student newsletter that includes all of the information you will need to know to keep up to date. This newsletter is run by students, for students! The newsletters are emailed to all students regularly.

Toilets

You can use the toilets before school, during break and lunch times and in between lessons. If you needed to use the toilet during a lesson, then you would need to ask permission as we don’t allow students out of lessons to use the toilets. Sometimes students might need to use the toilet for medical reasons and that’s ok, we provide you with a pass to leave your lessons discreetly.

UKAT Furry Friends

Students are able to visit our therapy dogs Trek and Sapper and spend time with them alongside their owner Ms Knight, who is a member of the Pastoral Team at Chatham Grammar. Trek and Sapper are based in our Student Hub and they are super kind and cuddly.
